May 201 - BLM helps Dutch broadcaster Omrop Fryslân

BLM helps Dutch broadcaster Omrop Fryslân to digitally store and managed over 7000 hours of programs. AA Media Group has recently successfully delivered a new digital archive to Omrop Fryslân. Following an extensive workflow analysis by AA Media Group, a modular solution was selected based on a flexible media backbone, allowing a perfect match with the standard metadata model as outlined by ROOS, the umbrella organisation of all the Dutch regional broadcasters. This infrastructure allows Omrop Fryslân to secure its archive digitally for future purposes. The digital files are simply stored and can quickly be sent to the AVID production environment as well as archiving a second copy at a different location for back-up purposes. After the digitisation process, a simple and fast selection triggers the material that will be stored in the archive, allowing a saving of over 30% storage capacity.

The technology as provided to Omrop Fryslân consists of three components: Blue Lucy Media processing, Vidispine middleware and IBM's storage management. The Blue Lucy Miura system provides the user interfacing for all ingest, search, browse and export processes including metadata annotation. The Vidispine media backbone including multiple transcoding options provides MAM intelligence and controls the IBM Tivoli HSM environment which manages a standard 32 TB disk storage and a tape robot with LTO5 drives of 120 TB capacity.
